You are looking at a very solid, all original, 1 Owner, garage kept 1950 Mercury Monterey 2- Door Coupe!
To understand the care that was taken just look at the rows of oil change stickers in the door jamb!
I purchased it from a 96 year old friend of mine who purchased it new in Augusta Georgia in either June or July 1950. He said he paid either $5 or $10 less that $2,500 for the car new. He went on his honeymoon in it with his bride in 1951. I removed the car from the garage where it has lived for more than 50 years.
He added the bumper guards, the dual spot lights, the fog lights, the chrome gas filler door, the curb feelers, the headers and the 51 fender skirts with some kind of Buick molding on the skirts.
This amazing car has its original black and yellow leather interior that needs a little attention. The dash is gorgeous and has its original push button radio and accessory steering wheel. The headliner and door panels are almost perfect. The yellow vinyl top was replaced one time about 40 years ago however the stitching in the seams is separating.
It still has the original spare tire in the trunk, it has been used but it is still the original spare tire. The original owners manual is still in the glove box. The paint is the original paint that Henry Ford had painted on it in 1950.
There is a small crease and a couple of places on the lower side on the drivers side. You will probably never find another all original, un-restored one in your lifetime. The original engine purrs like a kitten.
About 20 or 25 years ago the owner had the underside of the car detailed for a car show, and it still looks almost like new underneath.
Many of the photos still have the dust from where the car had been setting for many years.
I just installed a set of wide white wall tires on it.
I feel that my price of $35,000.00 (REDUCED DOWN FROM $40,000) is very realistic for a classic vehicle like this one with the potential that this vehicle has.
